At the historic opening of the new Scarborough General Hospital on April 4, 2012, the Honourable Minister of Health Dr. Fuad Khan, proudly announced the commissioning of phase one (1), which saw the delivery of diagnostic and ambulatory services including radiology (ultrasounds, CT scans, fluoroscopy and mammograms), point of care testing, outpatient clinics, pharmacy and mortuary services.
A next-generation network has been implemented, taking the hospital to a state of the art health facility, a model of sorts, for the Health Sector Reform Programme. "We have a responsibility as an administration of class to give them a facility of class and that is what we have done today," stated the Honourable Orville London, Chief Secretary, Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
This technology includes a cutting edge patient registration service, which will properly identify every patient interfacing with health care services. Each patient will receive an e-health card, the primary means by which he or she will access health services at the hospital. Ms. Dorcas Murray, former matron at Scarborough Regional Hospital, celebrating her 70th birthday on this momentous occasion, was the first to receive her e-health card.
The new hospital facility will eliminate current problems of congestion and overcrowding, and reduced efficiency experienced at the Regional Hospital. All other services will be commissioned over the coming months.
