Student Volunteer Programme Graduation
Thursday, September 05, 2013

Fifty (50) students were selected from various secondary schools, to participate in the Ministry of Health's Student Volunteer Programme.

Student volunteers from the ages of 14-18 gained first hand experience in the health sector by performing non specialised duties in various health institutions within the RHAs.  Depending on their career interests, volunteers were placed in hospitals, district health facilities, the public health inspectorate, health centres and administration offices.

By performing in these capacities, volunteers were able to gain work experience and become more knowledgeable about opportunities in the health sector.

These volunteers described the program as an invaluable experience that not only fueled their passion for future careers within the health sector, but also gave them a sense of fulllinment as they were able to directly impact the lives of the patients they interacted with.

We applaud these volunteers for taking this inititative to serve their communites and hope to see them join us as future workers within the health sector.

A graduation ceremony was held on Tuesday 27th August, 2013 featuring addresses by the Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Fuad Khan and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christine Sookram.
