A Biomedical Engineer combines physical science and engineering in order to improve or restore function to patient and also to design medical equipment such as life support devices that improves the quality of life for medical patients.

DUTIES

• Conduct research on the various life support systems that affect patients; biological, psychological, behavioural, and so on
• Develop computer simulations and prototypes of equipment
• Design and develop equipment such as pacemakers or equipment used to assist in surgery
• Evaluate effectiveness of certain drugs.
• Testing and maintenance of medical equipment
• Making modifications to equipment where necessary
• Coordinates and monitors preventive maintenance schedules.
• Develops user training programs in the proper use and care of biomedical equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
• Secondary School subjects include all the Sciences, Mathematics and English
• Proficient in the use of computers, with a working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite.
• Knowledge of computer hardware and software.                
• Interpreting schematic diagrams to perform effective repair and maintenance on complex biomedical equipment.
